Looking for a good J2ME Phone
My old cellphone is beginning to die and it’s time for me to think about upgrading it. I figure that since I’m a ‘Java Developer’ I should get a ‘Java’ phone. I have had lots of success with Nokia in the past and I’m really tempted to stay with them.
Does anyone have any experience with the Nokia 6610? The price point is about right, and it claims to have MIDP support. All I really want is the ability to write my own software and deploy it to the phone. That way I can write cool little helper applications that can connect to my server at home and do ‘cool things’.
Essentially all I want from a phone is SMS, Contacts, Phone and the ability to write & deploy my own software that talks over TCP/IP.
Are there any other phones you think I should evaluate. I’m in New Zealand and a Vodafone customer so I may be alittle limited in my choices, but any suggestions are still welcome as I can probably import most of them and use them anyway.

I’ve got a Siemens S55 which is a lovely little phone, but it’s not as impressive as my wife’s 3650.
One word of warning is that the Nokia 7650 has problems sending/receiving on the socket at the same time, at least from J2ME. Dunno if this applies to the 3650, Russ had big problems getting his J2ME app to work on his 7650 and no problems on my S55 – http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/20030419.html#023854

I’ve got a Nokia 7650 and i’m interested in developping a little TCP/IP application that must communicate by special socket based protocol. When I buyed my phone I didn’t know anything at all about J2ME but at this moment I’m realise that there are a lot of problems with this phone for developping. Do you think that this phone and C++ is the correct option now? Wath’s the best C++ SDK for the Nokia 7650? Or it may be better to develop for another phone? Wath phone? What SDK?
Many thanks Your’s sincerely (sorry for my bad english)
