Worst service in years

I’ve never been more disappointed in a company. Paradise.net messed up what I thought was a very simple instruction. I told them the following.

  • I am moving the DNS hosting of my domains (koziarski.(com|net|org)) from paradise’s DNS servers to Register.com’s
  • I want to keep my multi drop POP3 account for when my cable connection is down, so I’ll be listing your mail servers as lower priority MX records.

Finally I said “If there are any problems with this, let me know”.

So over easter weekend (which is a four day long weekend in New Zealand) they did the DNS correctly, yet removed my domains from the rcpthosts on the mail servers. Consequently, people who’s DNS servers had cached the MX values for my domains (i.e people who send me mail!) received bounce messages.

It appears to be working alright now, however the consequences may take a while to come through. No doubt I’ve been subscribed from a bunch of mailling lists, I’ve probably wasted some poor sysadmins time by bouncing mailman messages. I could’ve missed important email. I’m no longer actively seeking work, but if I was …..

I’m going to try and get something from them for all this hassle. However I won’t be holding my breath.
