Well, I’m finally on cable, my blog’s going to stay here for a while till I get an idea of how much data I use. My first weekend used up a gig of my 5G allowance (10G from next month), though much of that was messing around updating my systems to the bleeding edge of their relevant distro.
I spent a long night getting my kernel compiled for iptables support, I’ve always had difficulty not fucking up my kernel compiles and all the different compile options for iptables made it that much harder. Finally it all seems to be up and running.
However I’d advise anyone switching to cable to make it clear to the Call center employees exactly what you are after. Make sure the understand that you do not want to cancel your dial up internet now for an install due to happen next weekend . As dumb as that sounds, that’s exactly what happened to me, my second phone line was turned off the morning after I made the call to get signed up.
Once I got an actual faults person on the line they immediately saw what was wrong, told me it happens a lot, and that there was Nothing we can do about it.
Lovely.
