Apple iPod 30G

I recently purchased a 30Gb Apple iPod I thought I’d post my thoughts here.

Strong Points

The UI is excellent within an hour of picking it up a I was completely proficient with it. That’s impressive. Also the storage & buffering is excellent, no skips jumps or lengthy delays. The remote headphone connection is nice and the iPod quite happily drives my “favourite headphones”http://www.sennheiserusa.com/pages/products/headphones/212.htm.

Weak Points

Musicmatch jukebox is the biggest pile of garbage I’ve ever seen. After 2 hours of poking around it’s UI I had no idea what i was doing, I gave up, installed EphPod and never looked back. Plus the iPodService seems to crash for ‘no reason’ an awful lot. Though this could be related to the fact that Microsoft’s software hates me. Finally I must have a rogue mp3 on the unit somewhere, as sometimes it just freezes and I have to give it a two fingered salute.

*Conclusion

I’m glad I spent the money, and I’d spend it again in a second. The professionalism of the iPod makes me think, maybe a mac is worth a go….
