Announcing Feed Your Reader

The RSS autodiscovery feature in Firefox is great, however I wanted something more. As I already use the excellent FeedDemon, I figured I’d write an extension to allow you to use the feed:// protocol to subscribe to discovered feeds. Once you’ve installed FYR you’ll see a new Feed Icon (FYR icon) in the status bar, that behaves just like the live bookmarks menu. However, instead of opening the bookmarks menu, selecting an item will launch your Feed Reader.

Live Bookmarks is a really nice feature, however it’s no substitute for a good RSS aggregator. FYR’s use of the feed:// protocol should allow other aggregators, such as RSS Bandit, to also benefit. I’m hoping that this extension can help relieve the concerns of other bloggers.

So, without further ado I’m pleased to announce the availability of Feed Your Reader

The latest version is 0.5, I hope some of you find it useful. Any comments or feature requests, just leave a comment here, or drop me an email. I’m especially interested to hear from users of aggregators other than Feed Demon, and platforms other than win2k and Fedora Core 2. Thanks to Nick Bradbury, Jack Brewster and Albert J. Gyomber for their help testing.
