Feed Your Reader 0.7

FYR 0.7 is out, with support for web based aggregators, other languages and more. Update: 0.7.1 released with new tab support for web based aggregators

I’ve just uploaded Feed Your Reader 0.7.1. This release adds support for web based aggregators such as bloglines, my yahoo etc. By default, FYR uses the feed:// protocol, however to select another aggregator, open the preferences window (Tools -> Extensions -> Feed Your Reader -> Options) and select it from the list. If you have any other aggregators you want supported, please email me the details. For advanced users who wish to experiment, you can edit the preference fyr.urlpattern to add support for a custom aggregator.

I realise the preferences UI is a little clunky now, I’m hoping to clean it up and add support for opening online aggregators in a background tab in the next day or so. Version 0.7.1 is out with ‘new-tab’ support for web aggregators (e.g. bloglines) and a less clunky preference dialog. If you find any bugs, leave comments here or email me.

My current plan is to release 0.8 within a fortnight, adding an item to the context menu for links, ala Phil’s Live Bookmark This.

Looking good! By the time I figure anything out for doing gBrowser.addTab() only if fyr_makeUrl(url).matches(/^http/), I assume you’ll have figured out something cleaner and better (especially given my attention span and short-term memory lately; I was supposed to send you something involving the letter L, wasn’t I?).

Sort of odd thing that I don’t know if you can fix or not: in the prefs window, if you currently have something other than feed: set, you can only set it to feed: if you know to change it to something else, and then to feed:, rather than doing what comes naturally and just saying “oh, it comes up with feed: selected, that’s what I want, I’ll click OK.” In HTML, you would look at the current pref, and make that selected=”selected”, but I don’t know if you can do anything like that in XUL.

Oh, and “ala Live Bookmark This”? Despite my being too lazy to include a license file, it’s tri-licensed, so there’s got to be one of MPL/GPL/LGPL that will let you just drop it straight in. Unlike many of our brothers-in-code, I really believe my license says what it says (or would say, if I remembered to include it): you want it, you use it.

Yeah, I’ll be releasing a 0.7.1 some time soon (maybe tonight…) which will hopefully:

1) Have a menu which doesn’t suck (currently I’m handling the ‘onclick’ event but not preselecting. 2) Have an ‘open in new tab’ option.

I’ve got the locale stuff mostly working …..
