My time off was great. It wasn’t a typical kiwi summer holiday like Alan has been having. I stayed at home the whole time, lounging around, reading and going for runs. Our new puppy Rory tied up some time as did my unhealthy addiction to Battlefield 2.
2005 was a hectic year for me, I held down a full-time job with a Big Co, worked with TextDrive on Strongspace and contributed to rails. Around October I’d fallen so far behind with some of my commitments that I realised something had to give. So I decided to leave enterprise java and work full time with the framework I love so much.
2006 is going to be an exciting year for me. I’m working from home (the commute is great), for an exciting technology company using the best web development framework out there. I’ll be stepping up my rails contributions and there’s some other stuff in the pipeline too, but more on that as it materialises. Frankly, I haven’t been this excited in a long time.

Just you wait. Soon enough you’ll become a recluse like me. Then you’ll fear the sun. Then your body succumbs to zombiism.
Fear.

My holiday may (arguably) be more [insert descriptor] than yours… but I think you’ve got the better day job to return to…!
